Elkhart, Indiana is a city located in the northern part of the state, about 15 miles east of South Bend. It is the county seat of Elkhart County and has a population of around 50,000 people. The city is known for its strong manufacturing industry, with many companies producing recreational vehicles, musical instruments, and other products.
The city was founded in 1829 and was originally called Pulaski. It was renamed Elkhart in 1831 after the nearby Elkhart River. The city grew rapidly during the 19th century due to its location on the Michigan Road and its proximity to Lake Michigan. By 1900, it had become an important industrial center with several factories producing stoves, wagons, carriages, and other goods.
