Plainfield, Illinois is a village located in Will and Kendall Counties in the U.S. state of Illinois. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area and has a population of 39,581 as of the 2010 census. The village is located approximately 40 miles southwest of downtown Chicago and is part of the Plainfield Township.
Plainfield is known for its historic downtown area, which features a variety of shops, restaurants, and other businesses.
