Northbrook, IL is a village located in Cook County, Illinois. It is a part of the Chicago metropolitan area and is situated about 25 miles north of downtown Chicago. Northbrook has a population of 33,170 people as of 2019 and covers an area of 13.3 square miles.
The village was first settled in the early 19th century by German immigrants who named it Shermerville after their leader, Frederick Schermer. The name was changed to Northbrook in 1923 when the village was incorporated.
Northbrook is known for its excellent schools and safe neighborhoods. It has been ranked as one of the best places to live in Illinois by Niche and Money Magazine. The village also boasts a vibrant economy with many businesses and industries located within its borders.
The village offers plenty of recreational activities for residents to enjoy including parks, golf courses, shopping centers, restaurants, movie theaters, and more. There are also several cultural attractions such as the Northbrook Historical Society Museum and the North Shore Center for Performing Arts.
Northbrook is served by two Metra commuter rail lines which provide easy access to downtown Chicago and other suburbs in the area. The village also has several major highways running through it including Interstate 294 and US Route 41 which make it easy to get around town or travel further distances quickly and conveniently.
