Villa Rica, Georgia Description
Villa Rica is a city located in the western part of Carroll County, Georgia, United States. It is approximately 30 miles west of Atlanta and is part of the Atlanta metropolitan area. The population was 4,134 at the 2010 census.
Villa Rica was founded in 1826 as a gold mining town and was originally called "Villa Rica de la Vera Cruz" (Rich Village of the True Cross). The city was incorporated in 1881 and has since grown to become one of the largest cities in Carroll County.
The city is home to several attractions, including the Pine Mountain Gold Museum, which showcases artifacts from Villa Rica's gold mining history. The city also hosts an annual Gold Rush Festival each October that celebrates its gold mining heritage with live music, food vendors, and activities for all ages.
The downtown area features a variety of shops and restaurants, as well as a historic courthouse square that dates back to 1827. There are also several parks located throughout the city, including Mirror Lake Park which offers fishing, boating, and other recreational activities.
Villa Rica is served by two school districts: Villa Rica City Schools and Carroll County Schools. The city also has several private schools available for students who wish to pursue a religious education or alternative learning options.
