Rockmart, Georgia Description
Rockmart is a small city located in Polk County, Georgia, United States. It is situated in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains and is part of the Atlanta metropolitan area. The city has a population of 4,199 as of the 2010 census.
Rockmart was founded in 1872 and was originally known as "Rocksville". The name was changed to Rockmart in 1883 when the railroad came through town. The city was incorporated in 1887 and has since grown to become an important commercial center for the region.
The city is home to several historic sites including the Rockmart Historic District which includes many buildings from the late 19th century and early 20th century. There are also several parks and recreational areas including Silver Comet Trail, which is a popular biking trail that runs through town.
