McDonough, Georgia Description
McDonough, Georgia is a city located in Henry County, about 30 miles south of Atlanta. It is the county seat and has a population of 22,084 as of 2019. The city was founded in 1823 and named after naval officer Commodore Thomas Macdonough.
McDonough is known for its historic downtown area, which features many 19th century buildings and homes. The city also has several parks and recreational areas, including the McDonough Square Historic District, which includes the old courthouse and other historic buildings.
The city is home to several educational institutions, including Mercer University's McDonough campus and Georgia Military College. There are also several private schools in the area.
