Ludowici, Georgia Description
Ludowici is a small town located in Long County, Georgia, United States. It is situated about 30 miles west of Savannah and about 20 miles east of Hinesville. The population was 1,500 at the 2010 census.
The town was founded in 1891 by German immigrant Henry Ludowici and named after him. It was incorporated as a city in 1906. The town has a rich history and is home to many historic buildings, including the Ludowici City Hall, which was built in 1912 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
The town has a variety of businesses, including restaurants, shops, banks, and other services. There are also several churches in the area. The local economy is largely based on agriculture and forestry products such as timber and lumber.
Ludowici is home to several parks and recreational areas including the Long County Recreation Park which offers camping sites, fishing ponds, playgrounds, picnic areas, and more. The nearby Altamaha River provides opportunities for boating and fishing as well as scenic views of the surrounding countryside.
The town also hosts several annual events such as the Ludowici Festival which takes place each year in October and features live music performances, food vendors, arts & crafts booths, carnival rides, games for children and more. Other popular events include the Long County Fair held each summer at the Long County Fairgrounds; the Annual Christmas Parade; and various other community events throughout the year.
