LaFayette, Georgia Description
LaFayette, GA is a small city located in the northwest corner of Georgia, about an hour south of Chattanooga, TN. It is the county seat of Walker County and has a population of around 7,000 people. The city was founded in 1835 and named after the Marquis de LaFayette, a French military officer who fought alongside George Washington during the Revolutionary War.
The city is known for its historic downtown area which features many old buildings and homes from the 19th century. There are several parks and recreational areas in LaFayette including Lafayette Square Park, which features a large fountain and gazebo. The city also has several museums such as the Walker County Historical Museum and the LaFayette-Walker County Arts Council.
The economy of LaFayette is largely based on agriculture with many farms located in the surrounding area. There are also several manufacturing companies located in town that produce products such as furniture, textiles, and automotive parts. The city also has a vibrant retail sector with many shops and restaurants located downtown.
