Jasper, Georgia Description
Jasper, Georgia is a small city located in Pickens County, about an hour north of Atlanta. It is the county seat and has a population of just over 3,000 people. The city was founded in 1833 and named after Sergeant William Jasper, a Revolutionary War hero.
The city is known for its historic downtown area which features many old buildings and homes from the 19th century. There are also several parks and recreational areas throughout the city including the Pickens County Courthouse Square, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
The economy of Jasper is largely based on tourism and agriculture. The city is home to several wineries, farms, and other attractions that draw visitors from all over the country. The nearby Chattahoochee National Forest provides plenty of outdoor activities such as camping, fishing, hiking, and more.
