Hartwell, Georgia is a small city located in the northeast corner of the state, about an hour and a half from Atlanta. It is situated on the shores of Lake Hartwell, a large man-made lake created by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in the 1950s. The city has a population of around 4,000 people and is known for its historic downtown area and its beautiful natural surroundings.
The downtown area of Hartwell is full of historic buildings, many of which have been restored to their original condition.
