Commerce, Georgia is a small city located in the northeastern part of the state. It is situated in Jackson County and is part of the Athens-Clarke County Metropolitan Statistical Area. The city has a population of around 6,800 people and covers an area of 8.2 square miles.
Commerce is known for its historic downtown area, which features many old buildings and homes that have been preserved from the 19th century. The downtown area also includes several restaurants, shops, and other businesses. The city also has several parks and recreational areas, including Tugaloo State Park and Lake Oconee.
The city is home to several educational institutions, including Truett McConnell University, which offers undergraduate and graduate degrees in a variety of fields. Commerce also has a public library system that serves the community with books, magazines, newspapers, audio books, DVDs, CDs, and more.
Commerce is served by two major highways: US 441 and GA 15. It is also served by several bus routes operated by the Jackson County Transit Authority (JCTA). The nearest airport to Commerce is Athens-Ben Epps Airport (AHN), located about 30 miles away in Athens.
