Carrollton, Georgia Description
Carrollton, Georgia is a city located in the northwestern part of the state, about 45 miles west of Atlanta. It is the county seat of Carroll County and has a population of approximately 24,000 people. The city was founded in 1826 and named after Charles Carroll, a signer of the Declaration of Independence.
Carrollton is known for its historic downtown area, which features many 19th century buildings and homes. The city also has several parks and recreational areas, including Adamson Square Park, which features a large fountain and gazebo. The city also hosts several annual festivals such as the Carrollton Cultural Arts Center's Summer Concert Series and the annual Hot Air Balloon Festival.
The economy in Carrollton is largely based on agriculture and manufacturing. Major employers include Tyson Foods, Inc., Georgia-Pacific Corporation, and Southwire Company. There are also several educational institutions in the area including West Georgia Technical College and University of West Georgia.
Carrollton is served by two major highways: Interstate 20 and U.S. Route 27/41. The closest airport is Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport located about 45 miles away in Atlanta.
