Ball Ground, Georgia Description
Ball Ground is a small city located in Cherokee County, Georgia, United States. It is situated about 40 miles north of Atlanta and is part of the Atlanta metropolitan area. The population was 1,433 at the 2010 census.
The city was founded in 1832 by settlers from North Carolina and named for a large boulder that served as a boundary marker between the Cherokee and Creek Indian nations. The town was incorporated in 1854 and has since grown to become a popular destination for outdoor recreation, with several parks and trails located nearby.
The downtown area of Ball Ground features several historic buildings, including the old City Hall building which dates back to 1885. There are also several restaurants, shops, and other businesses located in the downtown area. The city also hosts an annual festival called "Ball Ground Days" which celebrates the city's history and culture with live music, food vendors, arts & crafts booths, and more.
The surrounding area of Ball Ground is home to many outdoor activities such as hiking, camping, fishing, hunting, horseback riding, golfing, boating and more. There are also several state parks located nearby including Red Top Mountain State Park and Amicalola Falls State Park which offer stunning views of the North Georgia Mountains.
