Palmetto, FL is a small city located in Manatee County, Florida. It is situated on the Gulf Coast of Florida, just south of Tampa Bay and north of Sarasota. The city has a population of around 14,000 people and covers an area of 8.3 square miles.

The city was founded in 1868 by William and Mary Starling and was originally called Starling City. It was later renamed Palmetto after the palmetto trees that grew in abundance in the area. The city has a rich history and is home to several historic sites including the Palmetto Historical Park, which features a museum, walking trails, and a replica of an old-fashioned general store.

Palmetto is known for its beautiful beaches and waterfront parks along the Manatee River. There are also several golf courses in the area as well as numerous shopping centers and restaurants. The downtown area features many historic buildings as well as modern shops and businesses.
