Lehigh Acres, Florida Description
Lehigh Acres is a census-designated place located in Lee County, Florida, United States. It is situated in the southwestern part of the county and is part of the Cape Coral-Fort Myers Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 86,784 at the 2010 census.
Lehigh Acres is a sprawling suburban community located just east of Fort Myers and north of Cape Coral. It covers an area of approximately 31 square miles and is home to many residential neighborhoods, shopping centers, parks, golf courses, and other recreational facilities. The area has a humid subtropical climate with hot summers and mild winters.
The city was founded in the 1950s by Lee Ratner as a planned community for veterans returning from World War II. It was named after Lehigh Valley Railroad which ran through the area at that time. The city has grown rapidly since then and now boasts a population of over 86,000 people.
Lehigh Acres offers its residents plenty of amenities including several public parks, golf courses, shopping centers, restaurants, schools, churches, libraries and more. There are also several medical facilities located within the city limits including Lehigh Regional Medical Center and Gulf Coast Medical Center.
The city also offers its residents plenty of recreational activities such as fishing in nearby lakes and rivers or visiting one of its many parks or golf courses. There are also several annual festivals held in Lehigh Acres such as the Lehigh Spring Festival which features live music performances and food vendors from around the world.
