Leesburg, Florida Description
Leesburg is a small city located in Lake County, Florida. It is situated on the banks of Lake Harris, which is part of the Harris Chain of Lakes. The city has a population of around 20,000 people and covers an area of approximately 10 square miles.
The city was founded in 1857 by Evander Lee and was originally named "Lee Town" after him. It was later changed to Leesburg in 1875. The city has a rich history and is home to many historic sites such as the Leesburg Historic District, which includes over 200 buildings from the late 19th century.
The city is known for its beautiful parks and outdoor recreation opportunities. Venetian Gardens Park is a popular spot for swimming, fishing, boating, and picnicking. There are also several golf courses in the area including the Palatlakaha River Golf Course and the Plantation Golf Club at Leesburg.
Leesburg also offers plenty of shopping opportunities with its downtown area featuring numerous antique stores, boutiques, restaurants, and cafes. The nearby Lake Square Mall offers more than 100 stores for shoppers to explore.
