Groveland, Florida Description
Groveland, Florida is a small city located in Lake County, about 25 miles west of Orlando. It is part of the Orlando-Kissimmee-Sanford Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 8,729 at the 2010 census.
The city was founded in 1884 and named after Groveland Township in Michigan. It was incorporated as a town in 1925 and as a city in 1956. The city is home to several parks, including Lake David Park, which features a playground, picnic area, and boat ramp; and Lake Emma Park, which has a fishing pier and walking trails.
Groveland is also home to several historic sites, including the Groveland Historic District, which includes buildings from the late 19th century to the early 20th century; and the Groveland Train Depot Museum, which houses artifacts from the area's railroad history.
The city has several annual events that draw visitors from all over Central Florida. These include the Groveland Founders Day Festival held each April; the Groveland Christmas Parade held each December; and the Groveland Music Festival held each October.
Groveland is served by two public schools: Groveland Elementary School and South Lake High School. The city also has several private schools such as Faith Lutheran Academy and St. Mary Magdalene Catholic School. There are also several churches located within the city limits.
Groveland offers its residents plenty of recreational activities such as golfing at Green Valley Country Club or boating on Lake David or Lake Emma. There are also plenty of shopping opportunities with stores like Walmart Supercenter and Publix Super Market located nearby.
