Fleming Island, Florida Description
Fleming Island is a small, unincorporated community located in Clay County, Florida. It is situated on the west bank of the St. Johns River, just south of Jacksonville. The area is known for its natural beauty and outdoor activities.
The community was named after John Fleming, who was an early settler in the area. The town has grown significantly since its founding in 1873 and now has a population of over 28,000 people.
Fleming Island is home to several parks and recreational areas including Eagle Harbor Park, which features a boat ramp and fishing pier; Camp Chowenwaw Park, which offers camping and hiking trails; and Doctors Lake Park, which has a beach and picnic area. There are also several golf courses in the area including Eagle Harbor Golf Club and Fleming Island Country Club.
The town also boasts several shopping centers including Fleming Island Plaza Shopping Center, Orange Park Mall, and Town Center at Orange Park. There are also many restaurants in the area ranging from fast food to fine dining establishments.
Fleming Island is served by two public schools: Fleming Island High School and Paterson Elementary School. The town also has several private schools such as St. Johns Country Day School and Providence School of Jacksonville.
