Edgewater, Florida Description
Edgewater, Florida is a small city located in Volusia County, on the east coast of the state. It is situated between Daytona Beach and New Smyrna Beach, and is part of the Deltona-Daytona Beach-Ormond Beach metropolitan area. The city has a population of approximately 22,000 people and covers an area of 8.3 square miles.
The city was founded in 1883 by settlers from Georgia and North Carolina who were looking for a place to settle down and start their own businesses. The town was originally called "Eden's Water Edge" due to its proximity to the Indian River Lagoon. In 1925, the name was changed to Edgewater.
Edgewater is known for its beautiful beaches and waterways, which make it a popular destination for tourists and locals alike. The city has several parks, including Edgewater Park, which offers picnic areas, playgrounds, fishing piers, boat ramps, and more. There are also several marinas in the area that offer boat rentals and other water activities such as kayaking and paddle boarding.
The city also has a vibrant downtown area with many restaurants, shops, galleries, museums, theaters, and other attractions. There are also several festivals throughout the year that celebrate local culture such as the Edgewater Seafood Festival in April or the Edgewater Arts Festival in October.
Edgewater is served by two public schools: Edgewater High School and New Smyrna Beach Middle School. The city also has several private schools including Trinity Christian Academy and Stetson University College of Law.
