Brooksville, Florida is a small city located in Hernando County, about an hour north of Tampa. It is known for its historic downtown area, which features a variety of shops and restaurants. The city also has several parks and recreational areas, including the Tom Varn Park and the Withlacoochee State Trail.
The city was founded in 1856 by John May Brooks, who named it after his father-in-law, Preston Brooks. It was incorporated in 1880 and has since grown to a population of around 8,000 people. The city is home to several historic sites, such as the May-Stringer House Museum and the Hernando Heritage Museum.
