Alva, Florida Description
Alva, FL is a small town located in Lee County, Florida. It is situated on the banks of the Caloosahatchee River and is part of the Fort Myers-Cape Coral Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town has a population of approximately 1,500 people and covers an area of 2.2 square miles.
The town was founded in 1885 by Captain Francis Asbury Hendry and named after his daughter Alva. It was originally a trading post for cattle ranchers and farmers in the area. Today, Alva is still largely rural with many farms and ranches dotting the landscape.
The town has several historic sites including the Alva Schoolhouse Museum, which was built in 1895 and is now listed on the National Register of Historic Places. There are also several churches in town, including First Baptist Church of Alva which was established in 1887.
Alva is home to several parks including Caloosahatchee Regional Park which offers camping, fishing, boating, hiking trails and more. The town also has a public library and a community center that hosts events throughout the year such as concerts, festivals and art shows.
Alva is known for its small-town charm and friendly atmosphere. It's a great place to raise a family or retire due to its low cost of living and close proximity to larger cities like Fort Myers and Naples.
