Georgetown, Delaware Description

Georgetown is a small town located in Sussex County, Delaware. It is the county seat of Sussex County and has a population of just over 7,000 people. Georgetown is situated on the banks of the Nanticoke River and is known for its historic downtown area. The town was founded in 1791 and has a rich history that dates back to colonial times.

The downtown area of Georgetown is filled with historic buildings, many of which are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. These include the Old Sussex County Courthouse, which was built in 1837 and served as the county courthouse until 1971; the Bank Building, which was built in 1845; and the Masonic Lodge, which was built in 1848. There are also several churches located throughout Georgetown, including St. Paul's Episcopal Church, which was built in 1793 and is one of the oldest churches in Delaware.

Georgetown also offers plenty of recreational activities for visitors to enjoy. The town has several parks, including Trap Pond State Park and Nanticoke River Wildlife Area, both of which offer hiking trails and other outdoor activities. There are also several golf courses located nearby, as well as a variety of shopping centers and restaurants to explore.
