Waterbury, Connecticut is a city located in New Haven County, in the state of Connecticut. It is the fifth-largest city in the state and is situated on the Naugatuck River. The city has a population of over 110,000 people and is part of the Greater Waterbury metropolitan area.
Waterbury was founded in 1674 by settlers from Farmington, Connecticut. It was initially known as Mattatuck Plantation and was later renamed Waterbury after its first settler, John Bronson. The city grew rapidly during the 19th century due to its industrialization and became known as "The Brass City" due to its large number of brass mills.
Today, Waterbury is home to several major employers including Post University, Webster Bank, and Waterbury Hospital. The city also has a vibrant arts scene with several museums and galleries such as the Mattatuck Museum and the Palace Theater. There are also numerous parks and recreational areas such as Lakewood Park and Hop Brook Lake Park which offer plenty of outdoor activities for residents to enjoy.
