Milford, Connecticut Description

Milford, Connecticut is a coastal city located in the southwestern part of the state. It is situated on Long Island Sound and is part of the Greater New Haven area. The city has a population of approximately 52,000 people and covers an area of 28 square miles.

The city was founded in 1639 by Puritan settlers from England and was originally known as Wepawaug. It was later renamed Milford in 1784 after the English town of Milford Haven. The city has a rich history and is home to many historic sites, including the Jonathan Law House, which dates back to 1720.

The city has a vibrant downtown area with many shops, restaurants, and entertainment venues. There are also several parks and recreational areas throughout the city, including Silver Sands State Park which offers beach access and hiking trails along Long Island Sound.

Milford is also home to several educational institutions, including the University of Bridgeport, Sacred Heart University, and Housatonic Community College. The city also has an active arts scene with several galleries and performance venues such as the Milford Center for the Arts and Milford Arts Council.
