Northglenn, Colorado Description
Northglenn is a city located in Adams and Weld counties in the state of Colorado, United States. It is part of the Denver-Aurora-Lakewood Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 35,789 at the 2010 census. Northglenn is located 10 miles north of downtown Denver and just south of Interstate 25.
The city was founded in 1959 as a planned community and was incorporated in 1969. Northglenn has grown rapidly since its incorporation, with a population increase of more than 500% between 1970 and 2000. The city's growth has been fueled by its proximity to Denver, its affordable housing, and its excellent school system.
Northglenn offers a variety of recreational activities for residents and visitors alike. The city has over 1,000 acres of parks, trails, open space, and natural areas for outdoor recreation. Popular activities include hiking, biking, fishing, golfing, camping, picnicking, and bird watching. The city also boasts several sports complexes including an ice arena and skate park.
The city also offers a variety of cultural attractions including the Northglenn Arts & Humanities Council which hosts art shows throughout the year as well as concerts in the summertime at Eben G Fine Park. There are also several museums in the area such as the Butterfly Pavilion & Insect Center and the Children's Museum of Denver at Northglenn.
Northglenn is home to many shopping centers including Northglenn Marketplace which features over 50 stores and restaurants as well as an AMC movie theater complex. There are also several other shopping centers located throughout the city offering everything from groceries to clothing stores to specialty shops.
