Monument, Colorado Description
Monument, Colorado is a small town located in El Paso County, just north of Colorado Springs. It is situated at the base of the Rocky Mountains and offers stunning views of Pikes Peak and the Front Range. The town has a population of approximately 6,500 people and is known for its small-town charm and friendly atmosphere.
The town was founded in 1879 by General William Jackson Palmer, who named it after Monument Creek which runs through the area. The creek was named after a large sandstone rock formation that resembled a monument. Today, Monument is home to many historic sites including Palmer Lake, which was created by General Palmer as part of his plan to irrigate the area.
Monument is known for its outdoor activities such as hiking, biking, fishing, camping and horseback riding. There are several parks in the area including Palmer Lake Park and Monument Lake Park which offer great opportunities for outdoor recreation. The town also has several golf courses including King's Deer Golf Club and Gleneagle Golf Course.
The downtown area of Monument features many unique shops and restaurants as well as art galleries and museums. There are also several annual events held in Monument such as the Summer Concert Series at Limbach Park and the Christmas Parade on Main Street.
