Lafayette, Colorado Description
Lafayette, Colorado is a small city located in Boulder County, just east of Boulder and north of Denver. It is part of the Denver-Aurora-Broomfield Metropolitan Statistical Area. The city has a population of approximately 27,000 people and covers an area of about 8 square miles.
The city was founded in 1888 by Mary Miller, who named it after her husband, Lafayette Miller. The city was originally a farming community but has since grown into a thriving suburban area with many businesses and amenities.
The downtown area is home to many restaurants, shops, and other businesses. There are also several parks in the area including Waneka Lake Park which features a lake with paddle boats and fishing opportunities as well as trails for walking and biking. The Bob L. Burger Recreation Center offers swimming pools, fitness classes, basketball courts, and more.
The climate in Lafayette is mild with hot summers and cold winters. Average temperatures range from the mid-30s in winter to the mid-80s in summer. Snowfall averages around 25 inches per year while rainfall averages around 15 inches per year.
Lafayette is served by the Boulder Valley School District which includes four elementary schools, one middle school, one high school, and two charter schools. There are also several private schools in the area as well as higher education institutions such as Front Range Community College and Naropa University.
