Fort Morgan, Colorado is a small city located in the northeastern corner of the state, about 90 miles northeast of Denver. It is situated on the banks of the South Platte River and is part of Morgan County. The city has a population of 11,315 as of 2019 and covers an area of 5.6 square miles.
The city was founded in 1884 by a group of settlers from Fort Morgan, Kansas who were looking for a new home. The town was named after Colonel Christopher A. Morgan, who served in the Civil War and was instrumental in establishing the town.
Fort Morgan is known for its rich agricultural heritage and its many historic sites. The city has several museums that showcase its history, including the Fort Morgan Museum and the Pioneer Museum. There are also several parks and recreational areas in the city, such as Riverside Park and Legion Park.
The economy of Fort Morgan is largely based on agriculture, with corn, wheat, sugar beets, potatoes, alfalfa hay, and cattle being some of the main crops grown in the area.
