Fort Lupton, Colorado Description
Fort Lupton is a small city located in Weld County, Colorado, United States. It is situated along the South Platte River and is approximately 30 miles north of Denver. The city has a population of 8,541 as of the 2020 census.
Fort Lupton was founded in 1836 by fur trappers and traders who were attracted to the area due to its abundant wildlife and natural resources. The town was named after Lt. William H. Lupton, who served in the Mexican-American War and was stationed at Fort St. Vrain near present-day Fort Lupton.
The city is home to several historic sites including the Fort Lupton Historic District, which includes several buildings from the original fort as well as other structures from the 19th century. The district is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and includes a museum that houses artifacts from the fort's history.
The city also features several parks including Pioneer Park, which offers picnic areas, playgrounds, and walking trails; Centennial Park, which features a skate park; and Rotary Park, which has a fishing pond and disc golf course. There are also several golf courses in the area including Coyote Creek Golf Course and Fox Hollow Golf Course.
Fort Lupton has a thriving economy with many businesses located in its downtown area including restaurants, shops, banks, and other services. The city also hosts several annual events such as its Fourth of July celebration and its annual Harvest Festival in September.
