Fairplay, Colorado is a small town located in Park County, Colorado. It is situated at the base of the Rocky Mountains and is surrounded by stunning mountain views. The town has a population of around 600 people and is known for its historic buildings, outdoor activities, and friendly atmosphere.
The town was founded in 1859 during the Pike's Peak Gold Rush and was originally called South Park City. It was later renamed Fairplay in 1872 after miners decided to settle disputes with a fair play system instead of violence. The town has maintained its historic charm over the years with many of its original buildings still standing today.
Fairplay offers plenty of outdoor activities for visitors to enjoy such as hiking, fishing, camping, horseback riding, snowmobiling, skiing, snowshoeing, and more. There are also several parks located within the town limits including South Park City Park which features a playground and picnic area as well as an amphitheater for summer concerts.
The town also hosts several annual events such as the Fairplay Music Festival which takes place every summer and features local bands playing live music on Main Street. Other popular events include the Fairplay Chili Cook-Off held each fall and the Fairplay Christmas Parade held each December.
