Elbert, Colorado Description
Elbert, Colorado is a small town located in the eastern part of Elbert County. It is situated at the intersection of State Highway 86 and County Road 1. The town has a population of approximately 500 people and covers an area of 0.6 square miles.
The town was founded in 1871 by settlers from Ohio and named after Samuel Elbert, the first governor of Colorado. It was originally a farming community, but today it is primarily a bedroom community for commuters to nearby cities such as Denver and Colorado Springs.
Elbert is home to several historic buildings, including the Elbert County Courthouse, which was built in 1883 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Other notable landmarks include the Elbert County Museum, which houses artifacts from the town's history, and the Elbert Community Church, which was built in 1875 and is still used for services today.
The town also boasts several parks and recreational areas, including Elbert Park, which features picnic tables, playgrounds, and walking trails; Elbert Reservoir, which offers fishing opportunities; and Elbert Lake State Wildlife Area, which provides habitat for a variety of wildlife species.
