Cotopaxi is a small unincorporated community located in Fremont County, Colorado, United States. It is situated at the base of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains and is surrounded by the San Isabel National Forest. The town has a population of approximately 200 people and is home to many outdoor activities such as camping, fishing, hiking, and mountain biking.
The town was founded in 1879 by miners who were searching for gold in the nearby hills. The town was named after Cotopaxi, an active volcano in Ecuador. The town has a rich history and was once home to a thriving mining industry. Today, Cotopaxi is known for its scenic beauty and outdoor recreation opportunities.
