Calhan, Colorado Description
Calhan, Colorado is a small town located in El Paso County, about 40 miles east of Colorado Springs. It has a population of just over 1,000 people and is situated at the base of the Rocky Mountains. The town was founded in 1887 and named after the Calhan family who were among the first settlers in the area.
The town is known for its rural charm and beautiful scenery. The landscape is dominated by rolling hills, open plains, and majestic mountains. There are several parks and trails in the area that offer great opportunities for outdoor recreation such as hiking, biking, camping, fishing, and horseback riding.
The town also has a vibrant arts scene with several galleries and studios showcasing local artisans’ work. There are also several restaurants offering delicious local cuisine as well as a few bars for those looking to relax after a long day of exploring.
Calhan is home to many historic sites including the Calhan Schoolhouse which was built in 1891 and is now listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The town also hosts an annual rodeo each summer which draws visitors from all over the state to enjoy some good old-fashioned cowboy fun!
