Basalt, Colorado is a small town located in the Rocky Mountains of the United States. It is situated in Eagle County, about 20 miles east of Aspen and 30 miles west of Vail. The town has a population of around 3,000 people and is known for its stunning mountain views and outdoor activities.
The town was founded in 1883 as a mining camp and was named after the basalt rock formations that are found in the area. Basalt is surrounded by mountains on all sides, including Mount Sopris to the south and the Flat Tops to the north. The Roaring Fork River runs through Basalt, providing plenty of opportunities for fishing, rafting, kayaking, and other water sports.
Basalt has a variety of shops and restaurants that cater to both locals and visitors alike. There are several art galleries showcasing local artwork as well as several boutiques selling unique items from around the world. The downtown area also features several cafes and bars where you can enjoy a meal or a drink while taking in the beautiful mountain views.
The town also offers plenty of outdoor activities such as hiking, biking, camping, skiing, snowboarding, golfing, horseback riding, rock climbing, hot air ballooning, and more. Basalt is home to several parks including Crown Mountain Park which offers stunning views of Mount Sopris and Ruedi Reservoir which provides excellent fishing opportunities.
