Whittier, California is a city located in the southeastern part of Los Angeles County, California. It is bordered by the cities of La Habra Heights to the north, La Mirada to the northwest, Santa Fe Springs to the east, and Pico Rivera to the south. The population of Whittier was estimated at 85,331 in 2019.
Whittier is known for its quaint downtown area with its historic buildings and unique shops. The city also has several parks and trails for outdoor recreation. The Uptown Whittier area features a variety of restaurants, bars, and stores.
The climate in Whittier is Mediterranean with warm summers and mild winters. Average temperatures range from highs of 75°F (24°C) in July to lows of 48°F (9°C) in January. Rainfall averages around 15 inches (38 cm) per year.
Whittier is home to several educational institutions including Whittier College, Rio Hondo College, and La Serna High School. The city also has a number of museums including the Whittier Museum and Historical Society and the Whittwood Branch Library Museum.
Whittier is served by two major freeways: Interstate 605 and State Route 72. Public transportation options include Metro buses and Metrolink trains which provide service to downtown Los Angeles as well as other nearby cities such as Long Beach and Anaheim.
