San Mateo is a city located in the San Francisco Bay Area of California, USA. It is situated on the San Francisco Peninsula, just south of San Francisco and north of Silicon Valley. The city has a population of approximately 103,000 people and covers an area of 22 square miles.
San Mateo is known for its mild climate, beautiful parks, and vibrant downtown area. The city is home to several major employers such as Oracle Corporation, Sony Interactive Entertainment America, and Visa Inc. There are also many smaller businesses located in the city's downtown area.
The city has a variety of attractions including the Coyote Point Recreation Area which offers a variety of outdoor activities such as fishing, boating, and hiking. Other attractions include the San Mateo Japanese Garden which features traditional Japanese gardens and sculptures; the San Mateo County History Museum which showcases local history; and the Hillsdale Shopping Center which offers over 150 stores and restaurants.
San Mateo also has an active nightlife with numerous bars, clubs, restaurants, and live music venues. The city also hosts several annual events such as the San Mateo County Fair in June/July and the San Mateo Music Festival in August/September.
