Poway, California Description
Poway is a city located in San Diego County, California, United States. It is a suburban city located about 20 miles (32 km) north of downtown San Diego and is part of the San Diego metropolitan area. The population was 47,811 at the 2010 census.
Poway's rural roots gave rise to its slogan "The City in the Country". As an unincorporated community, Poway does not have its own municipal government, but it is governed by the County of San Diego. The city maintains its own fire and police departments, and contracts with the county for other municipal services such as library services and recreation programs.
Poway's primary industries are agriculture and technology. The city has several large technology companies that have their headquarters or regional offices in Poway including Sony Electronics, Panasonic Avionics Corporation, and General Atomics Aeronautical Systems. Agriculture is still a major industry in Poway with many nurseries and farms located within the city limits.
The climate in Poway is typical of Southern California with warm summers and mild winters. Average temperatures range from highs of around 80°F (27°C) during summer months to lows around 50°F (10°C) during winter months. Rainfall averages around 10 inches (25 cm) per year with most rain falling between November and March.
Poway offers many recreational activities for residents and visitors alike including hiking trails, golf courses, parks, lakes, museums, shopping centers, restaurants, movie theaters and more. There are also several annual events held in Poway such as the Poway Rodeo & Festival held each June at Old Poway Park or the Summer Concert Series held each July at Lake Poway Park.
