Pomona, California is a city located in Los Angeles County, about 30 miles east of downtown Los Angeles. It is the fifth largest city in the county and has a population of over 150,000 people. The city is known for its diverse culture and vibrant art scene.
The city was founded in 1888 and was named after the Roman goddess of fruit, Pomona. It has since grown to become an important economic center in the region, with many businesses and industries located here. The city is home to several universities and colleges, including Cal Poly Pomona, Western University of Health Sciences, and Pomona College.
The climate in Pomona is generally mild year-round with temperatures rarely dropping below freezing or rising above 100 degrees Fahrenheit. Summers are usually hot and dry while winters are mild with occasional rain showers.
Pomona is home to many attractions such as Fairplex, which hosts the annual LA County Fair; Auto Club Raceway at Pomona; Raging Waters theme park; and the Fox Theater. There are also numerous parks throughout the city including Ganesha Park, which features a lake with paddle boats; Phillips Ranch Park; and Ganesha Hills Park which offers hiking trails and picnic areas.
The downtown area of Pomona has been revitalized in recent years with new restaurants, shops, galleries, and entertainment venues popping up all over town. There are also several museums such as the American Museum of Ceramic Art (AMOCA) which showcases contemporary ceramic art from around the world; The Museum of History & Art which houses artifacts from local history; and The Historical Society of Pomona Valley which preserves local history through exhibits and educational programs.
