Mission Viejo, California Description
Mission Viejo is a city located in Orange County, California, United States. It is situated in the Saddleback Valley of southern Orange County, and is bordered by the cities of Lake Forest to the north, Aliso Viejo to the east, Laguna Niguel to the south, and San Juan Capistrano to the west. The city has a population of 96,346 as of 2019.
Mission Viejo was one of the first master-planned communities ever built in California. It was developed by Mission Viejo Company in 1964 and incorporated as a city in 1988. The city is known for its tree-lined streets and rolling hills that offer stunning views of nearby mountains and valleys.
The city features numerous parks and recreational facilities including Oso Creek Trail, Casta del Sol Golf Course, Lake Mission Viejo, and Norman P. Murray Community Center. There are also several shopping centers such as The Shops at Mission Viejo and Kaleidoscope Courtyard Shopping Center.
Mission Viejo is served by two school districts: Capistrano Unified School District (CUSD) and Saddleback Valley Unified School District (SVUSD). CUSD serves most of Mission Viejo while SVUSD serves parts of northern Mission Viejo. There are also several private schools located within the city limits including JSerra Catholic High School and St. Margaret's Episcopal School.
Mission Viejo has a Mediterranean climate with hot summers and mild winters. Average temperatures range from highs in the mid-80s during summer months to lows in the mid-50s during winter months. Rainfall averages around 12 inches per year with most precipitation occurring between November through March.
