Merced, California is a city located in the San Joaquin Valley of Central California. It is the county seat of Merced County and is situated between Fresno and Modesto. The city has a population of approximately 83,000 people and is home to the University of California, Merced.
Merced has a Mediterranean climate with hot summers and cool winters. The average high temperature in July is 92 degrees Fahrenheit (33 Celsius) while the average low temperature in January is 40 degrees Fahrenheit (4 Celsius). Rainfall averages around 10 inches per year.
The economy of Merced is largely based on agriculture, with many farms located in the surrounding area. The city also has a growing manufacturing sector, with companies such as Foster Farms and Kraft Foods having operations in the area. Tourism also plays an important role in Merced’s economy, with Yosemite National Park being located just an hour away from the city.
