Lancaster is a city located in the Antelope Valley of the western Mojave Desert in northern Los Angeles County, California. It is approximately 70 miles (110 km) north of downtown Los Angeles and is part of the Greater Los Angeles Area. Lancaster is known for its sunny weather, affordable housing, and vibrant culture.
The city has a population of over 160,000 people and covers an area of 94 square miles (244 km2). The city has a semi-arid climate with hot summers and mild winters. The average high temperature in July is 92°F (33°C) and the average low temperature in January is 40°F (4°C).
Lancaster has a diverse economy with many industries including aerospace, manufacturing, retail, healthcare, education, and agriculture. The city also has several major employers such as Boeing Satellite Systems International, Lockheed Martin Space Systems Company, Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems, and Edwards Air Force Base.
The city offers plenty of recreational activities for residents to enjoy including hiking trails at Prime Desert Woodland Preserve or Saddleback Butte State Park; golfing at Antelope Valley Country Club; shopping at Antelope Valley Mall; or visiting one of the many museums such as the Lancaster Museum of Art & History or the Aerospace Museum of California.
Lancaster also offers a variety of cultural events throughout the year such as the annual Lancaster Jazz & Blues Festival or the Poppy Festival which celebrates California’s state flower.
