Indian Wells, California is a small city located in the Coachella Valley of Riverside County. It is situated between Palm Springs and La Quinta, and is known for its luxury resorts, golf courses, and upscale shopping. The city has a population of just over 5,000 people and covers an area of about 14 square miles.
The city was founded in 1967 by the late Leonard Firestone and his wife, Ruth. It was originally developed as a resort community for wealthy individuals who wanted to escape the hustle and bustle of Los Angeles. Today, Indian Wells is home to some of the most luxurious resorts in the world including the Renaissance Indian Wells Resort & Spa, The Westin Mission Hills Golf Resort & Spa, and The Ritz-Carlton Rancho Mirage.
The city also boasts two championship golf courses: The Indian Wells Golf Resort and The Players Club at Indian Wells. Both courses offer stunning views of the surrounding mountains and desert landscape. In addition to golfing, visitors can enjoy tennis at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden or take part in one of many outdoor activities such as hiking or biking along trails that wind through nearby Joshua Tree National Park.
Indian Wells also offers plenty of shopping opportunities with its many boutiques, galleries, and specialty stores located throughout town. Visitors can find everything from designer clothing to unique gifts at these stores. There are also several restaurants offering a variety of cuisines from around the world as well as local favorites like Mexican food or date shakes from Shields Date Garden.
