Hollister, California Description
Hollister is a city located in San Benito County, California, United States. It is the county seat of San Benito County and is located in the southern part of the state. The population was 34,928 at the 2010 census. Hollister is known for its agricultural production and its proximity to the Pinnacles National Park.
The city has a Mediterranean climate with mild winters and hot summers. The average temperature in Hollister ranges from 40°F (4°C) in January to 85°F (29°C) in July. The city receives an average of 14 inches (36 cm) of rain per year, mostly during winter months.
Hollister is home to several historic buildings, including the San Benito County Courthouse, which was built in 1872 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Other notable landmarks include Mission San Juan Bautista, which was founded by Spanish missionaries in 1797 and is now a state historic park; and Jardin de Las Rosas, a public garden featuring more than 500 varieties of roses.
The city also offers a variety of recreational activities such as golfing at San Juan Oaks Golf Club or hiking at Pinnacles National Park. There are also several wineries nearby that offer wine tasting tours and events throughout the year. Additionally, Hollister hosts several annual festivals such as the Hollister Downtown Association's Summer Concert Series and the San Benito County Fair each summer.
