Hesperia, California Description
Hesperia is a city located in the Mojave Desert of San Bernardino County, California. It is situated in the Victor Valley, which is surrounded by the San Bernardino Mountains and the Mojave National Preserve. The city has a population of 93,295 as of 2019 and covers an area of 73.2 square miles.
Hesperia was founded in 1888 by settlers from the Midwest who were looking for a place to settle down and start their own farms. The city was named after Hesperus, the Greek god of the evening star. The city has grown steadily since then and now serves as a bedroom community for commuters to Los Angeles and other nearby cities.
The climate in Hesperia is hot and dry during summer months with temperatures reaching up to 100 degrees Fahrenheit on some days. Winters are mild with temperatures rarely dropping below freezing. Rainfall is scarce throughout the year, averaging only 8 inches annually.
Hesperia offers many recreational activities for its residents including golf courses, parks, hiking trails, fishing spots, and more. There are also several shopping centers located within the city limits that offer a variety of stores and restaurants for visitors to enjoy.
The economy of Hesperia is largely based on retail trade, manufacturing, construction, health care services, educational services, transportation services, warehousing and utilities. Major employers include Walmart Distribution Center, Stater Bros Markets Distribution Center and Amazon Fulfillment Center.
