Gilroy, California Description
Gilroy, California is a city located in the southern part of Santa Clara County, about 30 miles south of San Jose. It is known as the “Garlic Capital of the World” due to its large garlic production and annual Garlic Festival. The city has a population of approximately 50,000 people and is home to many businesses, including several wineries and vineyards.
The climate in Gilroy is Mediterranean with mild winters and warm summers. The average high temperature in July is 85 degrees Fahrenheit and the average low temperature in January is 40 degrees Fahrenheit. Rainfall averages around 17 inches per year.
The city has a variety of attractions for visitors to enjoy, including Gilroy Gardens Family Theme Park, which features rides, gardens, and other attractions; Gilroy Premium Outlets for shopping; and Gilroy Golf Course for golfers. There are also several museums in the area such as the Gilroy Museum of Art & History and the South County Historical Society Museum.
Gilroy also offers plenty of outdoor activities such as hiking trails at Uvas Canyon County Park or Henry W. Coe State Park; fishing at Coyote Lake or Anderson Lake; camping at Coyote Lake or Henry W. Coe State Park; biking along the Pacheco Pass Trail; or kayaking on Coyote Creek or Uvas Creek.
