Castro Valley is a census-designated place located in Alameda County, California. It is situated in the San Francisco Bay Area and is part of the East Bay region. The population of Castro Valley was 61,388 as of the 2010 census.
Castro Valley is known for its rolling hills and rural atmosphere, with many homes having views of the San Francisco Bay. The area has a variety of parks and trails, including Lake Chabot Regional Park and Anthony Chabot Regional Park. There are also several golf courses in the area, including Canyon Lakes Golf Course and Palomares Golf Course.
The downtown area of Castro Valley features a variety of shops and restaurants, as well as a farmers market that takes place every Sunday from May to October. There are also several annual events held in Castro Valley, such as the Castro Valley Fall Festival and the Castro Valley Car Show.
Castro Valley is served by two school districts: Castro Valley Unified School District and Chabot-Las Positas Community College District. There are several private schools in the area as well, including Redwood Christian Schools and St. John Vianney Catholic School.
