Banning, California Description
Banning is a city located in Riverside County, California, United States. It is situated in the San Gorgonio Pass, also known as the Banning Pass. The city is located about 30 miles east of Palm Springs and about 100 miles east of Los Angeles. The population of Banning was estimated to be 29,603 in 2019.
Banning has a semi-arid climate with hot summers and mild winters. The average high temperature in July is 103°F (39°C) and the average low temperature in January is 40°F (4°C). The area receives an average of 8 inches (20 cm) of rain per year.
The economy of Banning is largely based on tourism and agriculture. The city is home to several casinos, including the Morongo Casino Resort & Spa, which attracts visitors from all over the world. Agriculture is also important to the local economy; citrus fruits are grown in abundance here, as well as dates and other crops.
Banning has a rich history that dates back to 1824 when it was founded by Phineas Banning, a stagecoach operator who established a stagecoach station here. Today, Banning is home to many historical sites such as the Cabazon Dinosaurs, which are two large dinosaur sculptures that were built in 1975 by Claude Bell; the Gilman Historic Ranch & Wagon Museum; and the San Gorgonio Pass Historical Society Museum.
Banning offers plenty of recreational activities for visitors and residents alike. There are several parks located throughout the city that offer hiking trails, picnic areas, playgrounds, and more. There are also several golf courses nearby for those looking to hit the links.
