Spanish Fort, Alabama Description

Spanish Fort, AL is a small city located in Baldwin County, Alabama. It is situated on the eastern shore of Mobile Bay and is part of the Daphne-Fairhope-Foley Metropolitan Statistical Area. The city has a population of approximately 7,000 people and covers an area of 8.2 square miles.

The city was founded in 1712 by Spanish settlers who were looking for a place to settle and establish a trading post. The city was named after the nearby fort that was built by the Spanish to protect their settlement from Native American attacks. The fort was later destroyed during the War of 1812 but its ruins still remain today.

Spanish Fort is known for its historic downtown area which features many old buildings and homes that have been preserved over the years. There are also several parks located throughout the city including Meaher State Park which offers camping, fishing, boating, and other outdoor activities.

The economy of Spanish Fort is largely based on tourism with many visitors coming to enjoy its beaches, parks, and other attractions. There are also several businesses located in the downtown area including restaurants, shops, and galleries.

Spanish Fort is served by two public school systems: Baldwin County Public Schools and Mobile County Public Schools. The city also has several private schools as well as a community college campus located nearby.
