Anniston, Alabama Description
Anniston, AL, USA is a small city located in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains in northeastern Alabama. It is the county seat of Calhoun County and has a population of 23,106 as of 2019. Anniston is known for its rich history and culture, as well as its outdoor activities.
The city was founded in 1872 by two brothers, Samuel Noble and Daniel Tyler, who named it after their hometown of Anniston, England. The city quickly grew to become an important industrial center due to its proximity to iron ore deposits and coal mines. During World War II, Anniston was home to a major U.S. Army base and chemical weapons plant. Today, the city is home to several large employers such as Anniston Army Depot and Fort McClellan.
Anniston has a humid subtropical climate with hot summers and mild winters. The average temperature in July is around 90°F (32°C) while January temperatures average around 45°F (7°C). Rainfall averages around 50 inches (127 cm) per year with most occurring during the summer months.
