Any fan of late-night television will know the name Jackie Gleason. The comedian and actor was lovingly referred to as Mr. Saturday Night and was largely responsible for popularizing television in the early 1950s. As viewership grew by the millions, the programming of the past was phased out for more relaxed and fun viewing options as viewers were looking for entertainment instead of pure education.

Now, anyone house hunting for a piece of television history in a great neighborhood has the opportunity to purchase the real estate that Jackie Gleason called home for decades.

The Entertainment Legend

Jackie Gleason was a talented stand-up comedian and showman who loved to go off-book. He watched his team’s rehearsals but then would just come in and improvise for the whole show, giving everybody a surprise, including the director.

He was an instinctive musician, composing his own theme songs, even though he didn’t know how to read music. He also set billboard sales records for music referred to as “vanilla background music.”

The Florida Era

Jackie Gleason was a huge fan of Miami and Miami Beach. He was able to draw tourists and new residents to the area due to his celebrity status. He spent a lot of time on the golf course, ultimately leading him to buy a home that backed onto the country club of Miami’s golf course in Hialeah.

Six years later, he moved North to the Inverrary Golf Community near Fort Lauderdale. and bought a house on a lake with his one true love, Marilyn Taylor. Now, that home is on the market and ready for the next owner to enjoy a magical piece of television history.

The Property

Only a few steps from the Inverrary Golf Course, the house is 4,123 square feet, containing six bedrooms, eight bathrooms, and an entertainment room. Overlooking the lake is the house’s centerpiece, an entertainment room with a bar and a dining room.

Top-Notch Hosting

The dining room is an especially popular spot in this stylish home, which Jackie had set up with multiple tables for guests. The room overlooks the lake for dinner with a view. The bar gives the space a little extra something that will bring anyone’s hosting abilities up a few levels and impress any guests.

Bringing the Outside, In

There’s an HOA with its own Clubhouse recreational facilities, and it is a truly private community. Owners can enjoy outdoor living all year, both on the property and in the community. The house also has an inside aviary so you can listen to and watch the birds every day while taking in the lake views from all rooms, balconies, and terraces.

Entertaining

The home is really a backdrop for the perfect evening of entertainment. Upgrades include more bathrooms, a sauna, a playroom, an entertainment room, a billiard room, a dining room, an office, two extra bars other than the main one, two extra-large garages, and the sunken bar and living room where Jackie enjoyed so many nights with his friends.

Mr. Saturday Night

Jackie Gleason grew up in Brooklyn, New York, but loved Florida and truly made it his home. This home was essential to his lifestyle and his larger-than-life personality. The Jackie Gleason Show commanded the second-highest ratings in the 1954-1955 season, and the buyer of this house will get to feel like a top-notch performer every day they live in it.
